Saturday Scholars Family Engagement Programming

CORE Family Engagement

Family Engagement Programming @ Saturday Scholars

CORE students participate in CORE’s Saturday Scholars Family Engagement program via an informal, cohort-based model until the end of high school. We invite students and families from September to May to our free, monthly events. During these events, students and families engage in high-intensity, hands-on STEM activities and interact with university faculty and students. These events are typically on campus but may also include field trips to outdoor locations, STEM labs, and more.

Saturday Scholars: Fall and Spring Kickoffs

Each September, to kick-off the year, CORE holds its annual Fall Kick-Off. CORE students and families will be welcomed into a new year of CORE. At the Spring Kick-Off, we mark the start of a new semester and celebrate the accomplishments of our students thus far in the school year.

Saturday Scholars: Student Success Seminars & Parent University

One Saturday a month, every month, CORE students and families participate in numerous hands-on STEM engagements activities provided by a variety of carefully selected UMN STEM facilitators and CORE partners.

Notably, past Saturday scholars have featured engagements from the MN Valley National Wildlife Refuge and U.S. Fish and Wildlife Services (USFWS) and the MN Bell Museum.

Saturday Scholars: End of Year Celebration

Families who participated in 80% of CORE events throughout the year will be invited to attend the end of year event.
